Free training for the poor
A three month long, full time training programme on ‘Desktop Support Services’ has been arranged for the benefit of educated, unemployed youth from the economically weaker section of society. The training shall commence from March 14, 2008.

Palliative medicine
The world renowned Diploma/ MSc course Palliative Medicine from Cardiff has come to Bangalore. A memorandum of understanding has been signed between Cardiff University, a member of the Russell group of UK’s top universities, and Karunashraya hospice. This has brought the top teaching team out to teach and work with senior doctors in India.
The Diploma course has pioneered distance learning for almost 20 years. More than 15,000 senior doctors have graduated with a Diploma in Palliative Medicine and some have gone on to win research prizes. Five Commonwealth Scholarships have been awarded to doctors from the Indian subcontinent, and now further scholarships are available to top applicants in India from the Commonwealth Commission. Each scholarship is worth over 320,000 rupees.
Baroness Finlay is Cardiff’s professor of palliative medicine and President of the Royal Society of Medicine. She is a member of the House of Lords (UK Parliament) and has personally introduced a palliative care bill and led opposition to euthanasia. She is also known for antismoking legislation and chaired an inquiry into the current epidemic of allergies.
