Make use of NREGS: ZP CEO
Tumkur, DHNS:
Zilla Panchayat CEO Manoj Kumar Meena has called upon the people's representatives, officials and general public to make use of the National Rural Employment Generation Scheme, which will come into effect in the district in April.

He was speaking at a workshop on the scheme at the ZP office here. The Centre has come up with the scheme to stop exodus of youth from villages to the city in search of jobs. Under the scheme, jobs will be created in every village and employment will be provided to people.

Every poor family must register itself with the GP for employment. Later, the family members will have to collect an ID card from the panchayat, he said. The ID will be given in the name of the head of family. Based on the number of people registered, 100 days of work will be given, he added.

It has been decided to pay an equal payment to men and women and a pay of Rs 74 has been fixed per day. In case if no job is given within 15 days of registration, the person will be given half-a-day’s salary as unemployment allowance.

Having bank accounts has been made mandatory to register under the scheme. This is compulsory to avoid the middlemen. The wage will be directly credited to the bank accounts, the CEO said.

At a primary stage, the scheme will be implemented to Sira, Pavagada, Madhugiri, he stated while adding that a meeting will be held to discuss these under the gram panchayat.

Several works such as building check dams to store rain water, construction of roads in rural areas, social afforestation and other programmes will be taken up n future. And whoever has registered will be given employment opportunity, he added. ZP Standing Committee Chairman K V Hanumanthaiah, Chief Accounts Officers Ramachandraiah and Premkumar and DFO Ravishankar were present.
