The Gorkha National Liberation Front (GNLF) supremo Subhas Ghising met the chief minister for the second time here, on Thursday, in search of a formula to end the stalemate in the Darjeeling hill areas.
Even as Mr Ghising declined to speak to the media on the outcome of talks, State Chief Secretary Amit K Deb only revealed that no breakthrough to the impasse has been achieved and talks would continue.
“Our endeavour is to find a peaceful solution to the current stalemate in the hills and we continue to talk to both Mr Ghising and Mr Gurung. We can’t reveal details of the meeting at this stage,” Mr Deb said. While the Gorkha Janamukti Morcha has been demanding scrapping of the 6th Schedule of the Constitution and immediate removal of Ghising as caretaker administrator of the Darjeeling Gorkha Hill Council, Ghising scoffed at the idea of resigning.
Asked whether the Ghising was asked to resign by the state government, Deb replied in negative. He said the GNLF supremo himself wanted to meet Mr Bhattacharjee. According to Mr Deb, a second round of talks could be held with GJM president Bimal Gurung, if required.
