Aam aadmi's take on Budget 2008

“It is a populist budget keeping in mind the elections. The Income Tax breaks have been due for a long time. While the tax breaks for women seem significant, it is lesser margin than the general tax exemption. The growth projection talks about all the strengths of India.”
-Sri Ram,
Chartered Accountant.

“It is a populist budget and definitely looks good on paper, but I was given to understand that the Left may not approve of it. The Left is an obstacle to all development and should not be a part of the next government.”
- Richa Pandey,
Marketing Consultant.

“The budget seems good for salaried professionals and gives room to save. But loans for farmers should not be completely waived, rather they should be given subsidies.”
- Rukhsar Ahmed,
Technology Associate

“If the tax exemption limit has been hiked, it will leave people with more disposable income resulting in them spending more.”
-Arvind Vardarajan, VP of a Corporate Retail company

“The economy is well projected through the GDP, which is going through a good phase; that the deficit has come down by 2.5 per cent is good sign.”
 -  Amrithavalli,
Principal, JSS Public School.

“While it seems that there is some relief for senior citizens, the government makes up by increasing taxes in other sectors - like the prices of household items
are high.”
 -Vijendrakumar,
Businessman

“The tax exemption hiked for senior citizens is definitely welcome. It will take a load off the shoulders for many.”
 - Srinivas C,
retired professional

“There should have been a standard reduction for government employees and the savings limit should have been increased”
- V K Khurana,
Executive Engineer
