Gift Tax In “Pedestrian” Budget
New Delhi, February 28

Prime Minister Nehru presented in Lok Sabha today what he called “Pedestrian budget which is in the main a continuance of things as they are with relatively minor changes or such changes as naturally flow from what we did last year.”

The new taxation proposals are aimed at making the present pattern of taxation an integrated one .

HAL employees meet outside City
Bangalore, Feb 28

Mohan Kumaramangalam, Communist leader told a mammoth meeting of the HAL employees today that there was a national struggle ultimately affecting the interests of the working class engaged in the public sector in India. The meeting was held at Marathalli four miles away from the factory.

Budget To Boost Savings
New Delhi, Feb. 28.

Presenting an investment – cum-savings – oriented innovative budget for 1983-84 today, Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee levied a wide variety of taxes mainly aimed at the corporate sector to fetch an additional revenue of Rs 615.31 crores to the Centre and Rs 100.74 crores to the States. However, this additional revenue will only partially meet the enormous budgetary deficit of Rs 2,250 crores.
