Not wishing to “rock the boat” in Pakistan’s post-poll politics, a senior PPP leader on Friday said the party, which is set to form a coalition government, does not want any confrontation with embattled President Pervez Musharraf.
Shah Mehmood Qureshi, the Punjab unit president of the Pakistan People’s Party and a contender for the post of prime minister, said the relationship between the future government and presidency is a “sensitive issue” and one of the challenges confronting his party.
The 51-year-old Cambridge-educated parliamentarian told Dawn News channel that the PPP did not want any confrontation with Musharraf and would not “rock the boat”.
‘Not to be reinstated’
Pervez Musharraf has no plans to quit or reinstate deposed Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry and other judges of the Supreme Court dismissed during emergency, a spokesman said on Friday. Spokesman Rashid Qureshi said there was “no question” of reinstating Chaudhry and the other deposed judges of the apex court. The President is also not considering resigning, he said.
