A city advocate has appealed to the High Court, challenging the validity of a city civil court’s order dismissing his suit seeking an injunction restraining State Chief Justice Cyriac Joseph from making “defamatory” statements against advocates.
The appellant advocate, M K Vijaykumar, said, he was defamed by the “defamatory” speeches made by the Chief Justice during certain functions at Chikkamagalur, Mysore and Udupi that showed advocates in a poor light.
Against this, he had filed a suit before the 8th Additional City Civil Judge seeking permanent injunction restraining the Chief Justice from making such “defamatory” statements and also claiming damages of Rs 10, he said.
Dismissed
But, the suit was dismissed at threshold with costs of Rs 10,000, he said while seeking the High Court to set aside the dismissal order and direct the civil court to proceed with his suit in accordance with law.
