HC for probe into site allotment
DH News Service, Bangalore:

The High Court on Friday directed the Bangalore Rural tahsildar to conduct inquiry and pass appropriate orders with regard to the eligibility of applicants for allotment of sites formed under Rural Housing Scheme in Chikkathogur village, Bangalore South taluk.

Justice S Abdul Nazeer issued the direction while disposing of three writ petitions - by Bangalore District Economically Weaker and Backward Peoples’ Association seeking a direction to confirm earlier allotments made to its members and distribute hakkupatras; by Geleyara Kshemabhivrudhi Sangha seeking site allotment for its members; and by about 181 aspirants of sites seeking inclusion of their names in the beneficiaries’ list.
The petitioners had said that the allotments were cancelled in 1989 over certain irregularities, and were since pending confirmation for more than 28 years.

Tax demand
The HC ordered notices to State Finance department and Commercial Tax authorities, over a writ petition by Nestle India Ltd challenging the validity of Sales Tax demand notices issued for about Rs 1.77 crore. The company has contended that entire tax leviable was to be adjusted against the tax amount due to be refunded on purchase of raw materials used in its export products of instant coffee and coffee-chicory blends.
