To bring agricultural research to the farmers, it has been decided to open agricultural research centres in each district, administrative member of University of Agricultural Sciences K C Shankare Gowda said here recently.
Inaugurating the extension workers training programme organised by Sericulture Department he said that the government has given a green signal to set up an agricultural research centre in Chintamani taluk.
Information
However, earlier Chintamani was in Kolar district and has now been included in the newly created Chikkaballapur district. In the next few days the administrative board will take a decision on this, Shankare Gowda added.
He said that the young generation is going away from agriculture as they are been weaned away by jobs in the information technology and biotechnology sector. Therefore it is essential that the agricultural research centres have to impart more information to the farmers, he added.
Utility
A lot of research is been done at the agricultural research centres, but very little of this research reaches the farmers for practical use, he said.
Taluk Panchayat President Moula, Educational Director of Sericulture University A N S Goud, Deputy Director of Sericulture Dr B S Angadi also spoke on the occasion. Central Silk Board scientist K N Mahesh, Assistant Director of Sericulture S V Kumar were also present on the occasion.
