INCIDENT'08 ROUND UP
Art fest enters fourth Day
DH News Service, Mangalore:

A personality contest Mr & Ms INCI was the highlight of Day 3 of Incident 08, the annual cultural fest of NITK Surathkal. At the end of a contest that offered comic delight with witty statements being the staple diet for the crowd, Prasanna of NITK and Farah of KMC were adjudged Mr INCI and Ms INCI respectively. Beach sports raged on under the sun with beach volleyball and football turning out to be popular pastimes. Informal events like Matka Phod and Kite flying kept the crowd occupied.

There were workshops on a variety of topics like kite flying and the dance form Casino Rueda. Painting and clay modelling competitions had many exercising the right side of their brain. The other exciting events of the day were Parliamentary debate, Biz-Tech quiz Center Stage, Movie spoofs, Mock press, dances and so on.

The event that kicked off on February 27 had an exciting course through a large number of events, each of which are crowd pullers. These include the semi-professional DJ contest Crossfade on Day 1 in which 8 DJs from Bangalore, Mangalore and Manipal competed against each other in a thrilling 3 hour showdown of music and mayhem. The event was judged by DJ Inferno, a leading artiste in the Electronic music scene in Bangalore. DJ Kiran was adjudged the winner at the end of the event.

Day 2 of Incident saw more fine arts and literary events. Expose was a photography exhibit showcasing the talents of budding photographers on campus. Also on show was “Kalakriti,” the college art exhibition encasing the campus talent.

Just a minute (JAM), parliamentary debate and the sports  and entertainment Quiz drew enthusiastic participation. On the arts section of the fest, day 2 saw “Striptease,” a cartooning contest and the solo eastern and western musicals. To cater to varied tastes, there was a gaming zone where contestants could play popular video games. The gaming zone through its 4-day run will see seasoned gamers take on each other for top honours.

The Mad Ads, an event involving the creation of comical advertisements for imaginary products, was appreciated a lot by the crowd.

On the other side of the highway, the beach was playing host to a variety of beach games, which once again proved to be hugely popular. There was also a sand modelling workshop conducted by a team of experts from Manipal.

The highlight of Day 2 has been a concert by famed playback singer KK, who enthralled the college goers with his dulcet tones. The two and half hour concert left the audience gasping for more. The prestigious quiz competition, Lone Wolf was conducted with Harsha of RVCE, Bangalore winning the event.

There was also a Sports & Entertainment Quiz. The magic show and workshop by Prof Shankar and troupe drew accolades. The Incident will conclude on March 2.
