Om Namah Shivaya chants rent the air
DH News Service, Bangalore:
Almost all Lord Shiva temples in Bangalore were decked up, and the idols of Lord Shiva in different names showed up with attractive alankaras on the occasion of Maha Shivaratri on Wednesday.

Several cultural events were also held throughout the night and made Shivaratri Jaagarane,  memorable for many.

Devotees offered special prayers including Ksheerabhishekha, Bilwaarchane, Rudra Homa and other poojas.

Many people observed fast too.

Several historic temples in city, including Kadu Malleshwara temple in Malleswaram, Gavi Gangadhareshwaraswami temple in Gavipuram, Sri Muneeshwaraswami temple in Banashankari, Sri Jalakanteshwara swami temple in Kalasipalya and others saw huge crowds during both morning and evening hours.

Unique Shivalingas attracted large number of enthusiasts. Sharana Sangama hosted a special darshan of 21-feet Shivalinga made of ice by a city artist, Manjunath in Jayanagar and humour fest.

Arya Vysya Mandali of Vijayanagar provided darshana of Vellore Jalakanteshwara swami by setting up a replica of famous Jalakanteshwara temple in Vellore, Tamil Nadu, at Sri Vasavi Kanyakaparameshwari Temple in Vijayanagar.

At Sri Mahaganapati temple in Malleswaram, an exhibition of a Shivalinga made of 1.2 lakh rice grains has been hosted.

Its creator N S Ananthkumar has drawn Shivalinga on each of the rice grains and has compiled them on paper sheets to form Shivalinga. The exhibition will be till March 7.

Karnataka Rakshana Vedike organised 101 Shivalinga darshana at Padmanabhanagar play grounds.

Shiva Mandira on Airport Road, where 65 ft tall Shiva idol is installed, had arranged for ksheerabhisheka in a large scale. Sri Samskruthi and Banashankari Cultural Organisation had organised photo-exhibition of Jyothirlingas.

Jaagarane

‘Nage Jaagarane’ organised by Vijayanagara Veerashaiva Yuvajana Sangha in Vijaynagar started at 8.30 pm and ran through the night with entertainment by Hasya Ranjani team. Annual “Jaanajaaneyara Nage Jaagarane” in Malleswaram was another humour extravaganza. Sharana Sahithya Parishat hosted “Sangeetha Shivaratri.”
