The animal had minor wounds on its body.
The PFA activists were alerted by a resident of the area, who feared that the animal would be captured by some people and sold off. “People who gathered around this unusual animal were talking about making a big sum, probably lakhs, by selling it off in the market,” said an activist.
Rarely seen in this part of the world, the slender loris also ran the risk of being consumed and its fur stripped for exotic value. PFA activists said such animals were also exploited for black magic.
The animal is expected to be released to a forest chosen by the Forest Department soon, since the slender loris is a species listed under the Schedule 1 of the Wildlife Protection Act. Anyone who spots such animals could contact the PFA helpline on Ph: 9980339880.
