No deadline extension for licence renewal

BBMP has declined to extend time for renewal of trade licences without penalty. The last date for renewal of licences is March 7. As much as 25 per cent of the licence fee will be collected from those applying for renewal between March 8 and 31.  Those who apply between April 1 and June 30 will have to pay 100 per cent of the licence fee as penalty. If licence is not renewed before June 30, such trade premises are liable for seizure. BBMP Deputy Com missioner (Resources) U A Vasanth Rao said the counters at FKCCI, offices of Medical Officers of Heath, Bangalore Hotel Association, K R Road and Karnataka Pradesh Hotel & Restaurant Association, Seshadripuram will be open between 10.30 am and 6.30 pm on March 6 and 7.

‘Metrology officials extorting money’

Autorickshaw Drivers’ Union has complained to the Lokayukta that officers of legal metrology department have been extorting money from autorickshaw drivers in the name of upgrading autorickshaw meters. The union has demanded that the Lokayukta conduct an inquiry into affairs of the department.

‘Ads spoiling City’s looks’

Former mayor P R Ramesh has complained to the Governor saying BBMP authorities are engaged in tarnishing the image of Bangalore by allowing advertisement hoardings at all places with the sole intention of earning more revenue. In a memorandum to the Governor, he has said Bangalore, which was once known as ‘City of Gardens’, is becoming ‘City of Ads’. Officers of the Palike should be blamed for these developments, he said.

Onco nurses’ meet

HealthCare Global Enterprises will host the Onco Nurses National Conference 2008 at Nimhans Convention Centre on March 7. The conference is aimed at highlighting the importance of having specially trained ‘onco nurses’ in providing care to cancer patients and also make them aware of the new challenges in oncology.

In oncology, where patients have to undergo prolonged and painful treatment protocols, nurses have a major role to play in ensuring the physical and psychological well being of patients.
