Janavadi seeks Judicial probe

Janavadi Mahila Sanghatane members submitted a memorandum on Wednesday to the DySP to be submitted to Governor demanding action against Circle Inspector who allegedly attacked Sanghatane President Jagadeeshwari on Tuesday.


The members demanded a Judicial probe in to the incident where a Circle Inspector  K N Ramesh had allegedly attacked the vendor Maniamma for not removing the cart and even abused and harassed her daughter and Janavadi Mahila Sanghatane President Jagadeeshwari who came to her rescue.

Janavadi Mahila Sanghatane’s district Secretary V Geeta alleged that mother and daughter were beaten in front of the public and were also chased by the Circle Inspector for questioning his behaviour.

Demanding the suspension of the Inspector members said that accused should be punished.

Early on Tuesday Janavadi Mahila Sanghatane staged a protest in front of the city police station seeking the suspension of Circle Inspector Ramesh for hurling abuses and physically abusing a woman vendor and Janavadi Mahila Sanghatane Zilla President Jagadeeshwari.

On Tuesday morning Circle Police Inspector Ramesh asked Maniamma, an old woman vendor near the city bus stop to move her cart. When she refused to mover her cart owing to her old age, Mr Ramesh threw the fruits on the road and wounded her.

Also, abuses were hurled at  Jagadeeshwari, president  of the Janavadi Mahila Sanghatane, when she arrived at the scene. Also, both of them have been hospitalised.

As the news spread SFI, DySP and representatives of the various organisations staged a protest in front of the police station.

Police version

However, a case has been registered against Maniamma for obstructing the work of a police official and using indecent language against him. Also, Maniamma has been arrested and presented before the court.

When I asked Maniamma to remove her cart as it was obstructing the traffic at the bus stop, she took me by collar, said Mr Ramesh.

However, when Jagadeeshwari tried to assault me with a knife, I tried to protect myself and i have also suffered injury as a result.

But Jagadeeshwari is absconding since the occurrence of the incident, the complaint of Mr Ramesh states.
