8 kg Tumour removed

Pavagada, dhns: A tumour weighing 8 kg was  successfully removed from the stomach of Rangamma, a 47 year old woman from Pavagada. When Rangamma observed her womb was growing in size, she assumed she was pregnant. Embarrassed about being pregnant at this age she did not go to any doctor. Instead she kept taking some local medicine from a quack to abort the ‘foetus’. However, that did not work and her stomach continued growing.

She waited till ninth month to ‘deliver the child’. But when no relief came even in the ninth month and the pain increased, she panicked and went to gynaecologist Dr Shivakumar at the Pavagada nursing Home.

The doctor found through scanning that a huge tumour had grown in Rangamma’s womb. He and his team conducted a surgery and removed the tumour which was weighing 8 kg. According to Dr Shivakumar, even in the past there are similar reported cases in the taluk. When women do not go to hospitals for delivery and instead deliver the child at home, there are possibilities of tumour growing in their stomach at a later stage in life, he opines.
