The critics blamed Ponting’s poor form for the defeat and said the team could have benefited if the captain had stood aside following the prolonged lean patch.

“The last thing Ponting needs is more cricket,” wrote The Daily Telegraph. The paper said Ponting should back out of the Indian Premier League and stay away from the game for a while to recharge his batteries.
