The University of Hyderabad is offering a new Masters Course in Contemporary Dance.
Specialisation: Contemporary Dance (Academic Year 2008-09)
Course outline: 16 formal courses will be offered over 4 semesters in the span of 2 years with a 60:40 ratio of practical and theoretical inputs. In credit-based evaluation process, courses will be conducted in an environment that is demanding but conducive for creative work.
*Courses will cover areas such as practice in several Indian and International dance techniques including Modern Dance, Yoga, Mayurbhanj Chhau, Physical-Theatre and Martial Arts
*Introduction to tools of Improvisation, Composition, Choreography
*Project work to let students develop their own stylistic features and choreography
*Theory classes on Dance, Society, Aesthetics and Artistic Processes
*Introduction to Stagecraft, Video Dance and Digital Arts
*Connecting to opportunities available in the field – teaching, community work, management, media and performances
*Range of workshops on different themes, performing arts practices and emerging areas in the field by invited national and international guest faculty
*Opportunity for performances in student productions choreographed by faculty and visiting guests
Eligibility criteria
Applicants for the course should have a Bachelor’s degree in any dance style or Bachelor’s degree in any subject with a minimum training of three years in any dance or physical-theatre style, yoga, martial arts, performing art group/institution or under recognised guru/teacher or a 10 + full-time 3-4 year diploma/certificate from a nationally recognised institution + 1 year professional work or 10 + 2 and 3-year full-time diploma from a recognised institution in any performing arts practice.
Copies of a formal certificate of training should accompany the application.
A written and practical test is required for entrance to the course.
