The Opposition Congress party, oscillating between the choices of an Assembly election and another coalition government, is planning to put together a show of strength in early November. The party has lined up a mass meeting of the Congress members in the Urban Local Bodies from across the State at the Palace Grounds in the City.
The party’s State in-charge Prithviraj Chauhan is expected to arrive in the City to address the ULB members’ meeting, KPCC President Mallikarjun Kharge said on Thursday. He said that the meeting could happen on November 5 “or even earlier”. “We are waiting for a schedule confirmation from Delhi. A clear picture on the details of the meeting will emerge only after the festival weekend,” he said.
Responding to the reported move by the AICC to revamp the State party unit, Kharge said that no information had been passed on to the KPCC in this connection.
No influence
Kharge dismissed the BJP’s allegations that the Congress leaders were frequently calling upon Governor Rameshwar Thakur to influence his decisions. “We used to meet the former Governor as well, to apprise him on various issues pertaining to corruption, administrative failure, Special Economic Zones and the Panchayati Raj. These are just childish allegations,” he said.
The KPCC president said that a review of decisions taken by an outgoing government was the norm and added that even the appointment of the son of former minister of forests C Chennigappa — in the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board — needed to be revoked. Kharge reiterated that the nominations made by the previous government to the boards and corporations were also a “matter of concern”.
