Tableaux packed with info and art
Mysore, dhns:
Lakhs of people were witness to the world famous Jamboo Savari, that marked the culmination of this years Dasara festivities, here on Sunday.

As many as 24 tableaux of various departments and districts stole the attention of the huge crowd that had gathered all along the path of the march, from the palace premises till the Bannimantap Ground, the final point of the majestic pachyderm procession.

A plethora of folk and cultural troupes from across the State, which actually are the repository of the rich tradition of Karnataka, had converged in the city of Mysore on Sunday, during the Jamboo Savari, the final and crucial leg of the Nada Habba, giving a spectacular scene for the large spectators to cherish the occasion for long.

Various police forces led the procession from the front. Nandi Dhwaja, Veerabhadra Nritya, Nada Swara, Naupat and Nishane elephants, police band and the cannon troupe followed the march. These were followed by tableaus and cultural troupes from various parts of the State and different organisations.

Music award
Governor Rameshwar Thakur on Saturday, conferred the ‘Rajya Sangeet Prashasti’ to Pandit Sidda Ramaswamy Korawar, the well-known Hindustani musician, at the Mysore Palace premises.

Sidelights
* The Governor got his better half, Narmada, also, to climb onto the podium to offer pooja to the golden howdah.
* This is the third time that a chief minister did not kick off the celebrations. During Gundu Rao’s tenure, once he could not be present as his father passed away. Minister Veerappa Moily performed the pooja in his absence. The Governor had performed the pooja after S R Bommai’s tenure as CM, when the State was under President’s rule.
* Old timers recall that during Jayachamaraj Wadiyar’s period, the Maharaja’s maternal uncle used to be seated behind him in the golden howdah.

There used to be a return procession and it made a pretty sight to watch the king’s robes and the jewels shining in the evening lights, they add.
