Weaving a story into design

Right from tunics, dresses to sarees - Pavithra Halkatti's new autumn-winter collection took on some of the most modern motifs, unusual to a festive look.

If its the indo-fusion silhouette that you wish to flaunt this festive season, Pavithra Halkatti’s new autumn-winter collection should interest you. Right from tunics, dresses to sarees — the collection took on some of the most modern motifs, unusual to a festive look.

Dresses in all-white, sporting the free spirit of butterflies comprised the first line. In knee-length and short styles, the dresses flaunted embroidered butterflies in multi-coloured beads and thread work and came in a variety of necklines. What followed was ‘Polka Dot’, a theme spotted on tunics and tights combo. Primarily in crepe and georgette, the tunics displayed polka dots in metallic gold, reds and blues. A couple of dresses too showcased this theme.

But the showstopper was the Egyptian-inspired kaftan, embellished with Swarovski. Teamed with tights, the flowy kaftans rich with embellishment, could make for an interesting festive wear. The themes of butterflies and polka dots translated effectively on men’s wear as well.

The final sequence showcased handpainted crepe sarees with spiritual writings on them. Teamed with corsets or stylised blouses, each saree attempted to tell a different story, depicting divine themes such as ‘Om’, ‘Prem’, Lakshmi, Sun God and Buddha.

Talking about the use of indo-fusion silhouette for a festive collection, Pavithra said, “Today a lot happens over brunch. My collection is a take on this new lifestyle and the colours bring out the festivity. The embellishment comprises zardosi, ari, bead and sequin work to bring some bling. The collection will be available at Isis, Forum Mall.”

Showcased at a chock-a-block venue, the event had the guests snaking upto the ramp right from the entrance, while many others were left stranded on the road. With Bangalore’s FQ-cum-party metre soaring high, it’s time the organisers put on their thinking caps firmly, when zeroing in on a venue.
