BJP hails peace deal
DH News Service, New Delhi:
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday projected the Jammu and Kashmir governments peace-deal with the Sri Amarnath Yatra Sangharsh Samiti (SAYSS) as a vindication of its stand and victory against the Kashmir separatists.

Senior BJP leader L K Advani said that he was satisfied with the outcome of the talks between the J-K Governor N N Vohra’s panel and the SASS leaders, because the Centre and the State Government had not given in to the separatists’ pressure.

Advani told media-persons that the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had heeded to his request of not to act under the pressure from the Hurriyat Conference (HC) and other separatists.

“I told the PM that the unrest triggered by the row over transfer of land to the Sri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB) should not be seen as a Hindu versus Muslim or Jammu versus Valley issue,” he said.

Advani also said the PM had promised him that the government would not succumb to the separatists’ pressure. Ever since the unrest began in J-K, the ruling Congress and the BJP have been engaged in a war of words. The Congress blamed the BJP and other offshoots of the Sangh Parivar of fomenting trouble in Jammu to whip up communal sentiments across the country and reap political benefits ahead of the coming Lok Sabha polls. The BJP on the other hand blamed the Congress-led UPA Government of giving in to the separatists’ pressure.
