Originally an artist, Krishnamani moved into designing about ten years ago after interning with designer Vidya Sagar and graduating from NIFT. ”I needed to build a career on a passion and that is why I started my label KRSNA which has grown over the years to find a presence in other metropolitan cities as well. I find that my Bangalore client appreciates a more subtle, classic look that can be mixed and matched with different items in a wardrobe. All my embroidery and finishing is done in-house and though I have a master cutter I like to do a lot of my own pattern-making and cutting. Each piece I make whether it’s a stole, a tunic or a shirt can be imaginatively used to team up and match with other items in a wardrobe. Oriental style kurtas are elegant and timeless and never get dated,” she adds.
Most of the ensembles were in bright exuberant colours with simple straight cuts and classic lines. While categorised as youthful, they could easily appeal to an older and more sophisticated clientele, especially a series in dove greys and pinks, which had intricate embroidery that made it dressy, yet understated due to the absence of bling. ”I bring out new designs every forty-five days but my basic style changes twice a year. I also customise my designs to suit my client’s requirements and I work with pure fabrics, mostly silks and linens. Right now, flowing knee-length dresses are very in and they are both comfortable and feminine as well,” she adds.
KRSNA is available at Cinnamon on Walton Road.
