GROOVING ALL THE WAY
DHNS

Friday night at a city hotel was all about good food and electrifying music. The event was organised as part of a series of live concerts, that feature musical biggies Shankar, Ehsaan, Loy, Louis Banks, Kurt Peters and Dominique Cerejo, the Amit Heri Group, Jonas Hellborg and V Selvaganesh, Saskia Laroo, Dub Liberation Front and Shaair & Func.

Bangalore grooved to the music of ‘Shaair and Func’ over the weekend. The duo succeeded in lifting the spirits of the party animals with their electro rock. “These guys have the best lyrics,” said an excited Gaurav. Swetha, who came with her parents said, “I’ve never heard something that is so fresh and gratifying.”

Coming from different backgrounds, the duo bring two diverse elements to their music. While Monica (Shaair), the vocalist, grew up in the USA, listening to Indian classical, ghazals and Bollywood music, Randolph (Func) grew up in Mumbai, listening to funk, rock, disco and reggae from the West. They are working at uniting the worlds of music and art with their sound, and this drives them to share the idea, “World is not always what it seems like on TV.”

They released an album, New Day – The Love Album last year and have just returned from the promotional tours of their latest, Light Tribe. Having spent most of  2007 performing and recording all over India, New York and London, they are now working on their next album.
