Now, City outsourcing festival dishes
DH News Service, Bangalore:
For many Bangaloreans, the Gowri and Ganesha festivals have come in a quick fix package, as they are conveniently buying out even the special dishes traditionally made for the occasion, from the shops.

No surprise, the City's condiment stores catering such festive delicacies are seeing huge crowds of customers.

There are many families in City which are either outsourcing the task of special preparations or shopping for them. And there are many caterers as well as shops providing not only the dishes relished by people on the occasion, but also the feasts that are offered to the deities as nyvedya.

Subbammana Angadi in Gandhi Bazar was crowded on Monday in Gandhi Bazaar. However, this was just an initial rush for the two day festivities, said Madhu, working with the store, explaining that the customers' number increases steeply during festivals. "We supply several kilos of dishes from the preparatory unit in frequent intervals, but every time, many items will be sold out in just 10 minutes, and the demand continues," he said. The delicacies mainly include holige and kadabu, besides puriunde.

While many go for all readymade food stuff, some buy only a few items and the rest prepare at home. Bhagya, a customer said, "I buy holige, chakkuli and kodubale. It takes much time to prepare them at home and we need less quantity. I prepare the kadubu myself. It gives me the satisfaction of celebrating the fest in real spirit"
One can look forward for some attractive varieties too - like the Adyar Anand Bhavan Sweets Stalls' this time attraction - boondi laddoo in three bigger sizes for offering in nyvedya to Lord Ganesha. Priced at Rs 220 per kg, one laddoo in the biggest size, weighs a quarter kilo.

The regular varieties include bele holige (each Rs 12) and kayi holige (each Rs 15) which are freshly prepared.
The store sees around 300 to 500 customers during festivals, against the regular 120-150 customers per day, for holiges alone. Khara kadubu and sihi kadubu are also available in packets of three, priced at Rs 15.
Adarsha Stores, Gandhi Bazaar is selling chigali unde, another favourite offering for Lord Ganesha. A packet of 15 small chigali will cost Rs 15. The store also sells sets of two puri unde and chakkuli – for bagina – priced at Rs 14.
