Infrastructure their priority

Most of the candidates contesting in the forthcoming MCC polls made it clear that infrastructure development will be their first priority in the days to come...

A brief glance into the wards ranging from Panambur Bengre to Tiruvailu,may reveal anybody the inevitability of the improvement in basic facilities.Even most of the candidates contesting in the forthcoming MCC polls made it clear that infrastructure development will be their first priority in the days to come.

Ward 11 Panambur Bengre

The ward covers areas like Bokkapatna Bengre, Kudroli Bengre, parts of Kasaba Bengre, Panambur,NMPT, MCF, Meenakaliya, Kurikatta, Thannirbavi and Ambedkar colony. BJP’s Prema Vasudeva is the immediate past corporator.

The ward has 5,049 voters in all.BJP candidate Clifford Lobo felt that the ward expects much developmental
activities. According to him the works done by the previous candidate (of his party) will be a plus point for his
victory. On the other, Congress candidate B Kamalaksha Salian said his aim is to set right the problems regarding
underground drainage and street lights.

Ward 12 Panjimogru

It comprises areas like uloor, Baddur, Vidyanagar,Panjimogaru, Manjatti, Melukoppalu, Vivekanagar and Urundadi. Sonia E D’-Souza of Congress was the previous corporator. The ward has a total of 5,266 voters. One of the candidates Shantha R (BJP) said the ward itself is a bundle of problems, including those of road, water, drainage and streetlight. She said the Congress supporters themselves have a negative opinion about the works done by
the previous corporator. B K Krishnappa (CPI) and Kanakadas Kuloor (JDS) are the other prominent candidates in the ward.

Ward 13 Kunjathbail (North)

This ward includes Kunjathbail,MCF Colony,Jyothinagar, Basavanagar,parts of KHB Colony,Athrabail, Korangibail,
Kula and Devinagar, having a total of 6,230 voters. Congress candidate Shahnaz was the former corporator.
Congress candidate K Mohammed said a permanent solution need to be provided for the landslide problem
on the banks of Gurupura river thus to protect the farmers too. The ADB’s drinking water project is yet to be commissioned; water is being supplied once in three days even today, he said. Mr Sharath Kumar (BJP) said much development works are being carried out in the ward as it comes under his parties MLA. However, he said his
concentration will be on better infrastructure.


Ward 14 Marakada

The ward includes Krishnanagara,Marakada, KHB Colony, Koranchadi, Ullasanagara and Ramanagara,
having a total of 5,574 voters. Kavitha Sanil of Congress is the sitting corporator.One of the candidates M Ganesh Malli (BJP) said transparent service to the residents is his priority. He said the road connecting Bajpe airport is not up to the mark having no proper footpath and drainage, while mosquito menace haunts some colonies. Congress
candidates Harinath said the roads are filled with potholes due to heavy rains hence his priority will be
setting them right.

Ward 15 Kunjathbail (South)

Areas like Kavoor Dalit Colony, Shantinagar and Vrundadi come under this ward that has a total of 5,127
voters. Nagaveni (Congress) was the immediate past corporator.Congress candidate K Mohammed Sharief said
though the ward does not have serious problems, he wants the roads in the ward to be reasphalted properly.K
Madhukiran (BJP) and K A Moideen (JDS) are the other contestants.

Ward 16 Bangrakuloor

Tha ward has a total of 5,648 voters, that comprises areas like Kodikal I cross to X cross, Dambel, Vrundai
gudde and Maladi. Shalini S Salyan (Congress) was the previous corporator. Harish Shetty (BJP) has a unique promise of responding immediately to the problems of the residents at any time, besides solving the usual complaints regarding water and power. K Keshav Sanil (Congress) is contesting from the same ward.

Ward 17 Derebail (North)

Purandardas Kuloor was the sitting corporator of this ward that has a total of 7,119 voters. The ward covers
areas like Konchadi, Jalligudda, Kudradi, Bapujinagar and some parts of Kodikal. BJP candidate Franklin Montheiro has already promised his voters that he would not receive any remuneration as a corporator but donate the same to some NGOs in the ward. According to him there is dire need for the comprehensive development of
SC/STs in the ward. M Shashidhar Hegde from Congress is another candidate.

Ward 18 Kavoor

Kavoor ward has areas like Akashabhavan, Kapigudda, Maryhill, Perlaguri, Mullakadu, Shivanagara,Devinagara, Anandangar,Bolpugudda and Sarkari gudda. Deepak Poojary (Congress) was the previous corporator.There are
8,197 voters. Both Bharat Raj (BJP) and Deepak K Poojary (Congress),the prominent candidates from the ward find improper distribution of ration cards as the significant problem of the area. Comparatively a larger ward in
MCC, one has to put true efforts to develop the sites in Kavoor, said Mr Poojary.

Ward 19 Pacchanady

This ward include places like Santhoshnagara, parts of Ashraya Colony, Swarnagiri layout, Masjid road,Devinagar, parts of Padavinangadi,Fathima Nagara area and Chamundeshwari temple area.Hilda Alva from Congress was the earlier corporator. There are  5,565 in all.

One of the candidates Bharathi (Congress) said the displaced families in the ward need urgent attention
from the winners for rehabilitation as they are still residing with their neighbours and relatives. Veena
Damodara contests from BJP.


Ward 20 Tiruvailu

Independent candidate Jayaprakash was the corporator of the ward since 2002.The ward has 5,171 voters in
all, covering areas like Thiruvailu, Vamanjoor, Kudupu, Baithurli,Kethikal, Ambedkar colony,parts of Ashraya colony,Customs colony, Jyothinagar, Amrutanagar and Parari.

BJP supported independent candidate Jyothi Jayaprakash and Congress candidate Reeta C Suvarna are contesting for the forthcoming polls, where water,streetlight and drainage woes have been identified as
significant woes.
