Normal life was thrown out of gear in several parts of Orissa as heavy rain lashed different parts of the state including capital Bhubaneswar for the third consecutive day on Saturday under the impact of the deep depression formed in the Bay of Bengal.
Five deaths have already occurred during the last 24 hours in wall collapses during the heavy rain.
More rainfall
The local weather office has predicted more rainfall during the next 36 hours across the state, particularly in the southern, coastal and northern districts, under the impact of the deep depression which was centred around hundred kms south east of temple town of Puri. “The deep depression which is expected to cross land between Puri and Paradip late on Saturday night is likely to cause heavy to very heavy rainfall at several places in the state during the next 36 hours.
At some places the rainfall will be extremely heavy,” a spokesman of the local weather office warned on Saturday afternoon.
65-yr-old killed
Three people including a 65-year-old man died in Batakhola village in Cuttack district on Friday night when the walls of their house collapsed during the heavy rain.
Similarly, a husband-wife couple died in Jharpada area in Bhubaneswar on Saturday morning in a similar incident.
