A year after drumming their way into the Guinness Book of World Records, the Meghalayans are planning another feat – this time with guitars.
Nearly 2000 guitarists – both professionals and amateurs from Meghalaya would assemble Shillong in October to strum their way into the record-book.
“Ours will be the largest guitar ensemble in the history of the world,” said the State Government’s education minister and chairman of the Meghalaya Tourism Development Forum (MTDF), R G Lyngdoh.
The guitar-ensemble will be a part of the autumn festival that the MTDF holds every year in Shillong. Lyngdoh said the guitarists in the Shillong Ensemble would perform Bob Dylan’s classic, Knocking on Heaven’s Door.
“Every youngster in Meghalaya either owns a guitar or knows how to strum one. So assembling 2000 guitarists to beat the Kansas City’s record won’t be a problem,” said the MTDF’s vice-president Larsing Ming Sawian.
Last autumn, Shillong beat the drumming record of Hong Kong. 7951 drummers from across the State assembled to play ‘Positive Vibration’ and beat the record of Po Leung Kuk, a charity organization of Hong Kong.
