The election campaign will end today and all forms of campaigning such as holding Public meetings, party processions, and others are prohibited after 7 am, said Deputy Commissioner G Ramachandra here.

Addressing the Press conference on Tuesday, he sought the co-operation of all the parties for the same as it is the election code of conduct to prohibit the campaign within 48 hours of the conduct of elections.

Nine Special Sectorial Magistrate have been appointed for the smooth conduct of the elections out of which three will work for KGF, two for Srinivaspur, two for Kolar, Mulbagal, Bangarpet and Malur, he said.

Preparations are in full swing for the elections of two CMC’s, four TMC’s and even police are also deployed for the smooth conduct of the elections, he added.

He said that the election will be held for a total of 166 wards. Kolar and KGF are two CMC’s, and Malur, Bangarpet, Shrinivaspur are all TMC’s which have 23 wards each. Mulbagal TMC has a total of 27 wards, he explained.

At all the local bodies there are a total of 3,00,329 voters out of which 1,49,943 are women. As many as 365 polling booths out of which 154 are considered to be sensitive, 154 supersensitive and 57 are considered to be general polling booths.

A total of 654 candidates will be contesting from 166 wards. 154 candidates from Congress, 95 from BJP, 128 from JD (S), 8 from BSP, 2 from CPI, 8 from CPI (M), 2 from JD (U), 7 from BSP 250 Independent candidates are in the final fray, said the DC.

Already 7 candidates have been unanimously elected. Candidates from ward number 15 and 23 in Kolar, candidate from ward number 7 in Bangarpet, and Independent candidates from ward number 22 and 23 have been elected unopposed, he stated.

Election Officers

As many as 18 election officers and 18 assistant officers have been appointed. A total of 1,604 election staff have been appointed for the election process, he stated. Decision is also taken to use government or private vehicles for the smooth conduct, he added.

Counting of votes

The counting of votes will be held on September 30 from 8 am. Counting will be held at the Government Boys’ College in Kolar, Government Boys’ Pre- University College in Malur, Government Model Higher Primary School in Bangarpet, School of Mines in KGF, St. Anns School in Mulbagal, First Grade College in Srinivaspur, said Ramachandra.

Fairs prohibited

On September 28 and September 30, organising fairs is prohibited and all liquor shops are ordered to shut down the shutters from September 27 from 7 am till 12 am on September 28 and also from September 29 midnight to September 30 midnight at the place of elections and around  the place within five km limits.

Prohibitory orders

Prohibitory orders will be in practise as per section 144 in the limits of the vote counting centres and polling booths from September 26 at 7 am to September 30 at 7 am, he stated.

Police deployed

The district police, district Armed Reserve Police and KSRP staff will be deployed. Additional staff will be deployed for sensitive and supersensitive polling booths, the Deputy Commissioner said.

Mobile squads

Also Mobile  squads have been appointed and check posts have also been opened for the purpose, said District Security Officer Dayanand. Additional Superintendent of Police K Yellappa, Deputy Superintendent of Police A Munireddy, Headquarters Assistant of DC N Babanna and others were present.
