Two fishermen went missing when a fishing boat sank near Bengre on Tuesday evening. However, seven fishermen have been rescued.
According to police, Sameena Fishing Trawl Boat belonging to certain Sayyed Alvi is the ill-fated boat which sank on the shores of Arabian Sea.
The mishap occurred when the boat was about to enter the old port near the estuary and the sea was rough.
A strong wind and huge waves hit the boat before it sank. There were nine fishermen on board.
However, seven of them have been rescued by the crew of Silver Fishing Boat. The missing have been identified as Krishnamurthy (42), a resident of Tamil Nadu and Salaya (35), a resident of Andhra Pradesh. The loss has been estimated at Rs 20 lakh.
Sources informed that the mishap occurred as dredging near the estuary was not undertaken for the past 15 years and is filled with silt. Search is on for the missing fishermen.
