KODAGU DISTRICT
'Solve confusion over tree ownership rights'
DH News Service, Madikeri:

Former Minister M M Nanaiah urged the coalition government to pass an order to solve confusion over Jamma Bane and tree ownership rights to the farmers.

Addressing a press meet, he said the government is unnecessarily delaying the process by bringing in an amendment to Revenue and Forest Act and not giving power to officials to execute it.

He came down heavily on Kodagu district police department’s plan to abolish right to possess gun (kovi hakku).  “Using gun is our birth right,” he added.

Mr Nanaiah said “before the rule of British and maharaja in Kodagu, the Kodavas had exemption for possessing a gun. Even Kodagu Commissioner had given concession for possessing gun in 1836. Even after bringing in an amendment to the Act in 1920, Kodavas had some kind of concession for possessing gun.” “If people are misusing the right to possess gun, let the police personnel verify it,” he added.

“The appointment of Rahul Gandhi as AICC General Secretary is people’s and party’s choice,” he added.
