T T K Gets No Promise Of Any Aid
Washington, Sept. 26.
Mr T T Krishnamachari, India’s Finance Minister, said today he had discussed India’s overall economic position with United States officials but had not yet made a direct approach for aid to narrow the 1,400 million dollars foreign exchange gap.
Mr Krishnamachari told a Press conference at the Indian Embassy that he had given Mr John Foster Dulles, the Secretary of State, whom he met yesterday, an explanation of India’s difficulties in implementing its Second Five-year development Plan.
Plugging Loopholes In Tax Collection
Mysore, Sept. 26
Mr T Mariappa, Finance Minister, addressing the Rotary Club of Mysore today stated that the State Government were contemplating the setting up of a separate commercial taxes department to plug the loop-holes in the collection of taxes.

India, USSR Oppose Interference
New Delhi, Sept. 26.
India and the Soviet Union today expressed their serious concern over the continuation of the “hot-beds of tension,” in South East Asia and the “dangerous situation” in the Indian Ocean. A joint declaration released simultaneously in New Delhi and Moscow reaffirmed the strong opposition of the two countries to outside interference in the internal affairs of the countries of South West Asia.
