Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy on Wednesday announced a cash prize Rs two lakh each for the four players from the state in the national hockey team which won the Asia Cup recently.
Making the announcement after the Cabinet meeting, Kumaraswamy apologised for the delay in the announcement. “I should have made it immediately after the team won the Asia Cup. My apologies if I have hurt the sentiment of the players,” he said.
Kumaraswamy had announced a reward of Rs five lakh each to batsman Robin Uthappa and bowling coach B K Venkatesh Prasad within minutes following India's triumph in the Twenty20 World Cup, saying they have done the country proud by winning the title.
There has been stinging criticism about the silence of the State government after India won the Asia Cup hockey and Pankaj Advani retained his IBSF world billiards title in Singapore recently.
