A colourful display of a colourful God, Ganesha, is sure to catch the eye when one walks into the Central Cottage Industries Emporium in the City. Ganesha Darshan, an exhibition of Ganeshas in various avatars promises a lot for the devotees of the lovable God. Besides, it displays the skill of the craftsmen involved in the making of these beautiful pieces. In fact, some of these Ganeshas are sure to leave one speechless due to the intricacy of the work on them.

These Ganeshas have come from different states like Tamil Nadu, Bengal and Andhra Pradesh. They are available in terracotta, brass, bronze, semi-precious stones and different types of wood like mangowood, neemwood and sandalwood. All the Ganeshas cost anywhere between Rs 29 to 1,40,000. The simple terracotta Ganeshas costing Rs 55 are beautiful. One of the unique pieces in the terracotta range is two Ganeshas sitting in a transparent box. The metallic Ganeshas are priced at Rs 40 onwards and are available in different avatars. One of the exclusive Ganeshas is the one carved out of neemwood and mangowood.

The Lord carved on semi precious stones like amethyst and jade are a must-have. Some of the other unique pieces in the collection include the whitewood bookmarkers, the Balamuri (trunk pointing to the right), Trimukha and Panchamukha, Ganesha carved out of a rock, Tanjore paintings, enamled Vinayakas on copper plates, card-holders, silk wall hangings, marble embossed ones to name a few. “We have face masks of the God on a brass leaf, Ganesha with a snake and the Lord with the mooshak rath. Each one is unique. There is Ganapathy with incense stick holder as well,” says Manjula, the Asst Manager. “We have over 1000 Ganeshas in as many as 15 avatars.

These are eco-friendly and made with non-toxic materials and can be preserved for a lifetime,” says S Mukherjee, AGM. The display is on till September 3 from 10 am to 7 pm at the Central Cottage Industries Emporium on M G Road. Those who are preoccupied with the festival can buy the pieces later as well. The pieces will be available till stocks last.
