SJBHS, established in 1858, has been the alma mater to a number of accomplished people including Ashish Ballal, former Goalkeeper of Indian Hockey Team, Sabeer Bhatia, co-founder of Hotmail, Krishna Bharat, principal scientist at Google, inventor of Google News, Rahul Dravid, Hakimuddin S H, represented India at the 2000 Sydney Olympics in Swimming, Mark Mascarenhas, the founder of WorldTel, Robin Utthappa, cricketer, Rehan Poncha, Gold-medallist at 2006 South Asian Games and others.
In all its 150 years of existence the school has aimed and succeeded in producing students who continually strive after excellence in every field. The school anthem says “Faith and Toil, conquerless alliance wherein we clasp human hands unto God's” is based on the principles of character-formation elaborated by Ignatius of Loyola. The school is divided into four Houses viz St Andrew ’s, St David’s, St George’s and St Patrick’s.
The Houses compete with one another in studies, games, track and field sports, aquatics, dramatics and music competitions.
The school has made significant contribution towards a radical transformation of present day social conditions, so that the principles of social justice, equality, freedom, brotherhood and othervalues enshrined in the Constitution of India are prevailed upon by the people.
