It has become the most preferred destination for the professional courses, said Home Minister Dr V S Acharya.
He was addressing Teachers’ Day celebrations organised by Udupi District Teachers’ Day Celebration Committee here on Friday.
The government is backing the education sector by introducing various schemes. Over Rs 8,500 crore have been allocated in the current fiscal year. Education gets more priority in the government’s plans, he said.
Dr Acharya said Knowledge Commission has been set up under the leadership of renowned scientist Prof Kasturi Rangan to assess the loopholes in the existing education system. Measures will be initiated following the recommendations of the Commission.
A total of estimated 5,375 teaching faculty will be benefited from the government’s decision to provide grants to the unaided schools that were frozen since 1987. Schools in rural areas with positive turnouts and results and qualified teaching faculty will also be considered for the conveniences under the aided schools in future, he informed.
As many as 10 teachers from the district were honoured on the occasion. T M A Pai College of Education Principal Dr Mahabaleshwar Rao delivered a special lecture on the importance of the Teachers’ Day celebrations.
A book “Hebbettina Sahi Balige Kahi” was released by Janardhana Mahaakali Temple Ambalpadi Dharmdharshi Dr N B Vijay Ballal on the occasion.
MLA Raghupathy Bhat, ZP President Raju Poojary, Taluk Panchayath President Geetha Prabhu and others were present.
