Speaking after inaugurating Teachers Day function at T Channaiah Rangamandir here on Friday, the minister said that the district, adjoining the capital lags in development and every effort would be made to ensure that the district treads the path of progress. He disclosed that foundation stone for construction of Gurubhavan would be laid in the district centre on coming Gandhi Jayanthi. Block Education Officer would function from the Gurubhavan itself.
Stating that the government was committed to reform the education system, the minister declared that student topping the district in SSLC examination will be given a cash reward of Rs one lakh and the school which taught such student will be rewarded with a cash of Rs 1.50 lakh. Assuring to provide houses and sites to teachers and free transport for teachers and students to schools, the minister called upon teachers to discharge their duties, diligently.
Facilities
Union Minister of State for Surface Transport, K H Muniyappa opined that basic infrastructural facilities were indispensable for higher education and felt that the need for formulating a programme with the objective of providing basic amenities even to remote villages. He assured to provide financial assistance of Rs 10 lakh for construction of Gurubhavan in the city.
Legislator and Karnataka Urban Water Supply and Sewerage Board chairman Varthur Prakash, who chaired over the function, said that concern towards teachers should not be a lip sympathy and instead, public representatives should initiate affirmative action to secure a dignified status for teachers in the society. He advocated payment of bonus to teachers.
Deputy commissioner G R Srinivas, Taluk Panchayat president C R Yuvaraj, Zilla Panchayat chief executive officer G V Rangaraj, DDPI Nagaraj and others were present. Six teachers of higher primary school and five high school teachers were honoured with Best Teacher award on the occasion.
