Antony leaves for US today
A day after Saturday’s critical nuclear success, Defence Minister A K Antony will leave on his maiden US tour to improve the new-found strategic coziness between the two countries further, reports DHNS from New Delhi. During his four-day visit, Antony will meet Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, Defence Secretary Robert Gates and National Security Advisor Stephen Hadley.
Basu’s condition stable
CPM patriarch and former West Bengal chief minister Jyoti Basu (94), who suffered an internal head haemorrhage after he fell down in his bathroom at his Salt Lake residence on Friday night, has been advised complete rest by the doctors, reports DHNS from Kolkata.
Fire at ONGC’s drilling rig
ONGC’s contractual drilling rig Pride Pennsylvania, while carrying out drilling operations at Mumbai High South field, encountered a mechanical malfunctioning, causing fire on Saturday and injuring five crew members, reports PTI from New Delhi. They have been evacuated to Juhu Helibase. The other 82 crew members of the rig are safe.
