India, US to conduct joint naval exercise  
In a clear indication of a new high in Indo-US military relation, US Navys most modern nuclear-powered aircraft carrier, USS Ronald Reagan, will arrive on the western coast before Diwali to participate in Malabar 2008, a joint naval exercise with India.
CPM opposes wargames in Malabar  
Registering its strong protest against the forthcoming Indo-US joint military exercises on the west coast, the CPM on Friday said that it would join hands with other Left parties to oppose the move.

The Union Health Ministry is "lobbying with concerned agencies" for abolishing Indian Penal Codes infamous Article 377, which by criminalising "sexual acts against the order of nature" prevents the gay community from coming out in the open.
