Sexual favours sought, videos circulated in Hassan: Karnataka women's body seeks SIT probe

The Karnataka State Commission for Women has asked Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to set up a special investigation team (SIT) to probe sex videos - some of them involving force or no consent - that are being circulated in Hassan district.

The Commission, headed by Dr Nagalakshmi Chaudhary, has said that “influential politicians” have sought sexual favours from women besides “raping some of them”.

These clips have reached people, “Making society hang its head down in shame”, the Commission stated. Apparently, sexual acts with thousands of women have been recorded on mobile phones for blackmailing them.

Polling delayed due to technical issues in three booths in Mysore-Kodagu Lok Sabha constituency

Polling was delayed by 40 minutes in booth no 260 under Narasimharaja Assembly segment in Mysore-Kodagu Lok Sabha constituency as the process began at 7 am on Friday in Mysuru city. There are booths number 260, 261 and 262 in Nehru Nagar Government School on Mahadevapura Main Road in Sathagalli Layout. While polling started at around 7.10 am in booths numbered 261 and 262, there was a technical problem in the EVM in booth 260, for which technical staff had to be summoned. Finally, polling started at 7.40 am in booth number 260.

Voters were seen thronging polling booths early morning to exercise their franchise. Officials started the polling process after mock voting in their polling booths.

There are 10 candidates in fray including Kota Srinivas Poojary (BJP), Jayaprakash Hegde (Congress).

There are 7,68,215 male voters and 8,16,910 women voters in the constituency. There are 1,842 polling booths.

Web casting has been arranged in 1,270 polling booths.

Polling in Dakshina Kannada Lok sabha constituency began on a brisk note on Friday morning. Voters were seen waiting in a queue to exercise their franchise since 7 am.

A woman in Kumpala said that she had arrived at the polling booth at 6.30 am to exercise her franchise so that she could leave to attend a marriage ceremony.

Political parties have set up their counters 200 metres away from the polling booths and were seen helping voters trace their polling stations. Some voters were even clicking selfies at a selfie booth after casting their votes.

The district has 1,876 polling booths and 18,18,127 voters. A total of 11,255 polling personnel have been deployed in polling stations.

The district has 40 sakhi polling booths, eight mission-based booths, eight young voters' booths, and eight traditional booths. Webcasting has been arranged in 938 polling booths. The district has 171 critical polling booths that has been provided security by CAPF personnel.

Shamianas have been set in place at polling booths for ensuring shade to the voters while wheelchairs, ramps, and drinking water facility were made available in most of the booths.

Initial glitch

Deputy commissioner Mullai Muhilan MP said that there was an initial glitch at Karopady polling booth but engineer set it right and polling continues peacefully.

EVM glitch causes 45 minutes delay in Chikkamagaluru

The voting process got affected for 45 minutes due to a glitch in EVM at a polling booth in Arenoor of Aldur in Chikkamagaluru.

People who were waiting in a queue expressed their displeasure.

On getting information, assistant returning officer Daljith Kumar rushed to the spot and the engineer fixed the issue.

Technical glitch was also noticed in an EVM at Chemnapura and Halepete in Birur before the commencement of polling.

The poll officer replaced the faulty EVM with a new one to facilitate polling.

Opposing the exclusion of the village from mining-affected region, villagers of Siddapura in Chitradurga taluk have decided to boycott the voting

The polling officials have been waiting for voters to turn up at the polling booth to exercise their franchise. The booth has not witnessed single voting so far.

The village has 510 voters. It is two km from Medikeripura where mining is being operated. But Siddapura has not been included in mining-affected region.

The village leaders have instructed citizens not to cast their votes till their demand is met.

From 101 year old Thimmamma to first time voter Miss Karnataka 2023 Tanishka Murthy, Mysureans rushed to polling booths at Krishna Raja assembly segment and others from as early as 7am to cast votes in Loksabha polls on Friday morning.

In Mysuru district polling went brisk in  Chamundeshwari, Chamaraja, Krishnaraja Narasimharaja, Hunsur, Periyapatna assembly segments of Mysuru-Kodagu LS constituency; K R Nagar assembly segment of Mandya LS segment; Varuna, T Narsipura, Nanjangud and H D Kote aaaembly segments of Chamarajanagar LS segment.

Of 27,42,108 registered voters, 13,91,043 are female, 13,50,840 are male, and 225 transgenders. Voting is being conducted at 3,471 polling stations in Mysuru district. 

Mysuru registers 11.01 per cent voting at 9:00 am.

Mandya registers 7.7 per cent, Hassan 8.23 per cent and Chamarajanagar 7.7 per cent till 9 am

Although elderly voters trickled in slowly at the Poornaprajna Education Centre, Sadashivanagar, chaos ensued when members of the Rajkumar family reached the centre to vote as media persons and local voters scrambled to get their photographs.

Raghavendra Rajkumar, actor and producer, was joined by his sons Yuva and Vinay Rajkumar, and late actor Puneeth Rajkumar's wife Ashwini Puneeth Rajkumar.

"Voting is not an act of charity, it is a right. I urge all voters to vote for whoever they think can do the most for their people," said Raghavendra Rajkumar.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah casted his vote in polling station no 86 at Karnataka Public School at his native Siddaramanahundi of Mysuru taluk, Varuna at 10.24 am on Friday. It falls under the Chamarajanagar Lok Sabha constituency.

Karnataka CM was accompanied by his son Dr S Yathindra at the polling booth.

The seers who exercised their franchise include Kunchitiga Mahasamsthana Seer Shantaveera Swami, Yadava Gurupeeta Seer Sri Krishna Yadavananda Swami, Bhovi Gurupeeta Seer Immadi Siddarameshwara Swami, Madara Chennaiah Gurupeeta Seer Madara Chennaiah Swami, Medara Gurupeeta Seer Keteshwara Swami and Banjara Gurupeeta Seer Sevalal.

Seers of various mutts exercised their franchise in the Sakhi polling booth at Mathadakurubarahatti on the outskirts of the Chitradurga city.

They stood in queue and showed their identity cards and exercised their franchise on EVM.

Poll official applies indelible ink on wrong finger in Mulki

An incident of polling staff official applying indelible ink on the wrong finger of the voters was reported at a booth in Mulki, Mangaluru.

Deputy Commissioner Mullai Muhilan MP said that the issue has been resolved by the sector office immediately.

Woman collapses while waiting for turn to vote, revived by doctor waiting in line

Bengaluru: A woman voter in her 50s was saved by a doctor waiting for his turn to vote in a long queue in southern Bengaluru’s Jambu Savari Dinne, JP Nagar on Friday.

Dr Ganesh Srinivasa Prasad, a nephrologist and transplant physician at a private hospital in the city was waiting in line to vote early this morning when a woman collapsed in front of him around 9:00 am.

Dr Prasad immediately performed CPR on her after securing her position, following which, she regained consciousness after about a minute.

The woman has been unidentified as of yet. She couldn't cast her vote but her husband, who is non-verbal, was allowed to vote by the authorities at the polling station.

A chende artiste Manohar (58) died of cardiac arrest after exercising his franchise in Kodagu district.

He had cast his vote at B Shettigeri polling station in Ponnampet taluk. Later, Chende artiste Manohar (58) reportedly collapsed after coming out of the polling booth. Though he was rushed to hospital, doctors declared him brought dead.
