<p>The memorandum sought postponement of the annual meeting of the AMU Court which is to be held on December 19 to elect the university’s next Chancellor, Pro Chancellor, Treasurer and six members of the Executive Council.<br /><br />It pointed out that there are more than 45 vacancies in the existing AMU Court and the elections should only be held when the electoral college is complete.<br /><br />The memorandum also said the plenary session of the All India Congress Committee is being held between December 18 and 20 and a large number of MPs, who are also members of the AMU Court, will thus not be able to attend the AMU Court meeting.<br /><br />The memorandum alleged the date of December 19 had been "deliberately chosen by the AMU Vice Chancellor" to manipulate the elections of the AMU Court.<br /><br />It pointed out that an inquiry is being conducted by two retired judges of the High Court into allegations of financial irregularities by senior AMU officials including the Vice Chancellor Professor P.K. Abdul Aziz.<br /><br />The forthcoming meeting of the AMU Court would thus have a vital bearing into the current "crisis" in the campus.<br /><br />Wasim Ahmad, who is also a former Visitor’s nominee to the University’s Executive Council, told PTI on telephone that the MPs have also urged the President in her capacity as the University’s Visitor to probe recent allegations that the 18- month-old inquiry committee into AMU affairs is being "deliberately torpedoed by the university administration".<br /><br />The MPs who met the President included Rashid Alvi, Sharfuddin Shariq, Dharmendra Yadav, Ali Anwar Ansari, Arvind Sharma, Ashaq Ali Tak, V. Hanumant Rao and Wasim Ahmad former M.P. and member of AMU Court. <br /><br /></p>
