<p> The Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) on Tuesday said it was effecting a stage wise modest hike in passenger bus fares of its City, Sub-Urban, Ring Road, Atal Sarige and Special Night Services and termed it as an inevitable exercise.<br /><br />However, there is no hike in the first three stages of ordinary BMTC services, Pushpak, Suvarna and Volvo services. The fare increase is restricted to Re 1, in most of the stages, while it has been increased by Rs 2 on long distance travel. According to BMTC, 48 per cent of ticket based commuters will not be affected by the fare hike as short distance fares have been exempt from hike.<br /><br />Pass rates hiked<br /><br />A modest increase in rates of BMTC day and monthly commuter pass has also been effected. The day pass has been increased by Rs 2 (Rs 30 to Rs 32), City (Black Board) monthly commuter pass by Rs 30 (Rs 420 to Rs 450) and sub-urban (Red Board) monthly commuter pass by Rs 35 (Rs 565 to Rs 600). However, both the monthly passes will be sold to senior citizens at a concessional rate of Rs 400 and Rs 540, respectively.</p>
