“The issue is before the Supreme Court and hence I will not comment,” he told reporters at Bangalore on Friday.

Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly Siddaramaiah demanded that the Bellary ministers be dropped from the Cabinet in the light of the CEC’s observation on violation of environment laws.

The Congress demanded that Yeddyurappa should resign owning moral responsibility for alleged illegal mining by his Cabinet colleagues.

KPCC president G Parameshwara alleged that Yeddyurappa did not act despite having full knowledge of illegal mining.

The Congress had been raising the issue of illegal mining by Reddy brothers time and again and the CEC report only corroborates the allegations. The chief minister should entrust the inquiry to Central Bureau of Investigation, he demanded.

KPCC spokesperson V S Ugrappa said the state government had suffered loss to the tune of thousands of crores of rupees due to illegal mining. He alleged that the chief minister was also a beneficiary and hence had been protecting the perpetrators.
