Speaking to the reporters after participating at an interaction programme with the farmers in Alur on Wednesday he said, the elephant population and the man-animal conflict is on the rise in the region. After observing that forest range of Alur is not suitable for elephants, a proposal has been sent to the Centre to relocate the elephants. As soon as the proposal is approved all the elephants would be relocated to other places in phases, he added.

According to Aiyappa Report, relocation of the elephants is the only solution for the existing problems where several lives have been lost, and also of frequent animal deaths.
Public has also been demanding Elephant sanctuary’, but this project is still at preliminary levels and is not permanent or a fool-proof project, he opined.

 Moreover, it is not scientifically proved.  On the contrary, the elephants can be relocated to Doddabetta, he said.

The government is also planning several measures to protect the people and also to increase the compensation amount.

Proposal have also been sent to increase the compensation to ` 25,000 for crop loss, five lakh rupees for loss of life in the jumbo attacks, Singh added. Deputy Conservator of Forests Ambadi Madhav was also present.

A meeting was held to pacify the villagers who were against the department for filing cases against the farmers following the electrocution of three elephant calves recently.

A girl was also injured when a tusker chased her in Alur on Tuesday.  Deputy Commissioner Naveen Raj Singh and other were present.
