She was among the four women who gave their opinion at the valedictory of a five-day workshop on ‘Women and Culture’ organised jointly by Kannada and Culture Department and Karnataka State Open University (KSOU) here on Sunday.

In an auditorium jam-packed with women, Kavitha observed that it was necessary for both genders to understand the significance of a woman’s role in preserving culture.
Another participant, Sumangala from Devadurga, Raichur District, opined that the workshop gave them a chance to develop self-confidence.

She urged fellow participants to practise whatever they had learnt during the past five days at the workshop and help others also develop their confidence.

Preserve

Speaking on the occasion, Kannada and Culture Department Joint Director Ka Ta Chikkanna said that a situation has arrived wherein it is necessary for us to save our culture. He said that there is a need for each individual to help preserve our culture and values.

Hope

“Even if only a few of you have been inspired, then it is enough... It’s not possible to see the results of the workshop immediately, but I hope that it is an important step for turning you into leaders,” he added.

Chikkanna said that with globalisation, people are forgetting human values.
He urged participants to think about the various ideas put forward during the workshop.

Value human relationship

Retired Yuvaraja’s College principal Prof N Ashwathamma said that there is a need to revive the values of human relationships.

She said that with TV and cinema becoming major influences, it is necessary to make the younger generation understand that everything that appears on TV is not the truth.
She said that only a creative woman can help families and society lead a happy existence.

KSOU Vice Chancellor Prof K S Rangappa, KSOU Kannada Studies and Research Department Chairman Dr A Rangaswamy, Vidyavardhaka College Kannada Lecturer B R Jayakumari and others were present.
