Sandeep Singh, in his early twenties, was allegedly murdered by Balwinder Singh at their house in Lakhwarian village on the night of February 6, Deputy SP Gurmeet Singh said.

A case was registered today against Balwinder under various sections of the IPC including 302 (murder) and it is suspected that the victim's body was thrown in the Beas river, the DSP said, adding that the body is yet to be recovered.

Balwinder today surrendered in the court of the judicial magistrate here and was remanded to police custody, he said.

Sandeep's father Amreek Singh, a resident of Chuladha village, had lodged a complaint with the police stating that his son was missing since February 6 and he feared that he had been killed as he had a relationship with a girl belonging to the predominant Jat community.

The DSP said the victim had gone to the girl's house on the night of February 6, where her parents found the two in objectionable circumstances and he was killed with lethal weapons.

Balwinder's interrogation was under progress, he said, adding, the girl is missing from her house and it is suspected that the parents have sent her to their relative's house.
