A Division Bench comprising Chief Justice J S Khehar and Justice A S Bopanna while hearing a petition by Cancer Patients’ Aid Association directed the government to ensure that educational institutions put up a board stating “No sale of cigarette and tobacco within radius of 100 yards.”

The petitioner has sought implementation of the Act in accordance with the National Tobacco Control Programme. It had contended that vendors were forbidden under the Act to sell any such products to minors.

List

During the earlier hearing, the Association had submitted a list of 41 educational institutions in the City which were inspected to monitor compliance with the Act.

The court had pointed out that there were tobacco and cigarette vendors within a radius of 100 yards of these institutions.
