Rs 10 crore allocated for training of athletes

Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa while presenting the budget congratulated the State sportspersons who won medals at the Commonwealth Games in Delhi and Asian Games in Guangzhou and announced a special training allowance of Rs 100 per day for the athletes attending the training camps who are selected to participate in the national events . “I take this opportunity to congratulate the sportspersons who have performed remarkably well in the recently concluded Commonwealth Games and Asian Games and have won a good number of medals, including gold medals, bringing fame to our State,” said Yeddyurappa .

Among other notable initiatives from the government were allocation of Rs 10 crore to build an international standard indoor and outdoor sports complex at Vidyanagar in Shimoga and also construction of a sports complex within a year at Bellary, amounting to Rs 5 crore.

A well-equipped indoor stadium, with a budget of five crore, at Virajpet in Kodagu and plans for the construction of swimming pools, wherever necessary on public-private partnership basis, in the districts through Urban Development Department and local bodies were also announced. For construction of the swimming pools, Rs 10 crore will be provided by the government.
