Speaking to Deccan Herald over phone from New Delhi, Shakhadri said, “we have decided to celebrate the Urus festival as per our family tradition and the date will be announced after reaching Chikmagalur.”
When contacted Deputy Commissioner N S Chennappa Gowda said that the court has given permission to hold Uroos as per the Muzarai Codification of 1989. A decision will be taken only after going through the court order thoroughly, he informed.
The district administration was organising the Uroos at Bababudangiri for the last five years and Shakhadri was not participating in the rituals.
The district administration was not allowing devotees to spread new clothes to the tombs inside and outside the cave. Similarly, the ritual of applying sandal paste was also not allowed during Uroos. Following this, Shakhadri had filed writ seeking permission to hold
Urus festival traditionally in the Supreme Court.
The district administration was holding the Uroos between March 20 and 22. However, this year the dates will be announced by Shakhadri.
The district administration is waiting for the copy of the Supreme Court order.
The deputy commissioner has decided to convene a meeting in this regard on March 3.
