Retrenched HIMS employees launch indefinite stir

In all, 291 non -teaching staff were removed from the jobs as per the orders issued by the State government on August 26, 2010.

In fact, the then Medical Education Minister Ramachandregowda had tendered resignation to his post when the recruitment ran into controversy.

The retrenched staff held protest for more than one and a half months. Subsequently, they moved the Karnataka High Court questioning their retrenchment without issuing any notice. The court, in its interim order, quashed the government’s order of retrenchment and directed it to take back all the employees.

The protesters alleged that so far, the government had not yet taken decision despite the court’s directive. The minister concerned and elected representatives have not bothered to solve their problems since last six months.

In the meantime, the institute director has called tender for outsourcing 157 persons, has caused concern among the retrenched staff. This has forced the employees to launch the stir.

Honnegowda, who is one among the retrenched employees, told Deccan Herald that they met the ministers, legislators and leaders and poured in their woes. Medical Education Minister S A Ramdas had promised to address their problems. But the decision to outsource 157 jobs caused anxiety for them.

Mamatha, another employee said let the government conduct inquiry if any irregularities have taken place and give jobs only to eligible. Most of the retrenched employees belonged to north Karnataka and they will be joining the agitation within one or two days.
