Cops seize weapons, nab duo near Kota

According to police, the arrested are Ganesh alias Jeethu of Kanakapura Ashwath Layout in Bangalore and Dhruva Kumar alias Narayana Poojary of J P Nagara, in Bangalore.

When Kota police station PSI Mahesh was patrolling on National Highway, he stopped this car for a routine check. When it did not stop, the police chased the car and waylaid it at Sasthana petrol bunk and arrested the duo.

The police have seized weapons like 2 swords, one knife, steel rod and chilly powder. The seized car also did not have any documents. A case has been registered.

The District Crime Intelligence Bureau (DCIB) sleuths arrested three persons, the key accused in abduction of entrepreneur Leo Pereira of Miyar in Karkala taluk in March 2010 and fled away with Rs 20 lakh, at Gandhi Park in Ajjarakadu on Wednesday morning.

According to police, the arrested have been identified as Bharath alias Ravi, Dhanu alias Dharmendra who were hiding at Mumbai for a few months and returned to Udupi few days ago in order to make extortion calls to Leo Pereira along with their accomplice Prashanth. In fact, a case was registered at Karkala police station with regard to threat calls.

The police have recovered Rs 2 lakh and jewellery from the accused.  DCIB police have handed over their custody to Karkala town police for further investigation.
The DCIB police inspector Ganesh M Hegde led the operation along with assistant sub-inspector Narayan, head constables Damodar, Satish Ballal and Mahabala Shetty, police constables Vaman, Ratnakar, Dinesh, Uday Kundar and Khader along with driver Manohar Udyavar as per instructions of Additional Superintendent of Police M V Venkateshappa.

4 hurt

As many as four persons sustained minor injuries when a bus turned turtle at Meltota in Kulshekhar on the outskirts of the city on Wednesday morning.
According to police, the city bus was on its way to Kulshekhar Chowki from Mangalore city. A case has been registered.

Robbed

A person was robbed a cash of Rs 11,400, Nokia mobile phone, ATM card and driving license near Rivera Hotel at Mission Street in Mangalore. According to police Razeek and Ashraf assaulted one Dr Kamath B S of Shimoga and decamped with the money. A case has been registered.

Held for graft

The Lokayukta police trapped a Second Division Clerk of Udupi Taluk Office while accepting Rs 2,000 here on Tuesday.

A resident of Gundibail in the city, he had approached the Taluk Office with an application
for conversion of his 10 cents of land on December 6, 2010.

Shivapalan used to visit the clerk to enquire about the progress of his application. When Shivapalan visited Nayak at taluk office on February 22, he dmanded a bribe of Rs 3,000.

However, he had brought down the bribe to Rs 2,000. But Shivapalan lodged a complaint with the Lokayukta police, who caught him red handed while accepting the bribe.
